Winter Olympics PROJECT:
Day 1 Total Costs Use the Excel spreadsheet below and this MONEY website: http://time.com/money/5013664/winter-olympics-2018-ticket-prices-costs/ to help you research:
- airfare ticket prices
- train transportation from Seoul to the Olympics site
- hotel near the site for the 5 days
- transportation to and from events
- average cost of food per day
- tickets to different events
Day 2: Events, Pictures, and Winter Park
Use these 2 websites for research:
https://www.pyeongchang2018.com/en/venues
https://www.olympic.org/pyeongchang-2018
1. Find a list of winter events-screenshot a picture onto your website
2. Find pictures of each event and label them. Post these to your website
3. Find a picture of the Olympic Sports venue and post it to your website.
Day 3: The Science of...The next step of the journey is to pick one Olympic sport and research the science behind a specific move or sport. For example, I researched the science behind the triple axel and other figure skating jumps. I found two helpful resources:
https://qz.com/946104/the-physics-behind-figure-skatings-quadruple-jump
and
https://science360.gov/obj/video/3dc91fe1-4442-4ae0-b9c8-59f441bb69a4/science-winter-olympics-figuring-out-figure-skating
Next, report on what you have learned: write a 2-3 paragraph explanation about the science behind the sport. Be sure to highlight and include terms like "velocity" and "force" in your report. Include any interesting facts you learned as you researched-Such as: What impacts an athlete's performance?
Include a works cited page: use http://www.easybib.com/ or another free citation maker to cite your sources of information. You must have at least 2 sources. Do not use Wikipedia.
Day 4: South Korea Research what there is to do in South Korea during your stay, what languages are spoken there, geography of the region, weather at time of Olympics and what to pack for your stay. How much was spent by the city to get ready for the Olympics? Include graphics of the Olympic village and the event sites.
Day 5-6: History of the Olympics-2-3 paragraphs and graphics: When were the first winter Olympic games held? Who participated and what events were included? Which country hosted the first winter Olympics? Which countries won medals in the events?, How many countries have held the winter Olympics since the first? What years have historical significance and why?
Day 7: Links to find information about this years Winter Olympics.
